The research task pane is a tool not to be over looked and can help you do your work faster than ever! With just a few short clicks you have all the tools you need in one place.

With these tools you will be able to: find references, translate text, set a translation screen tip, set a language and find a word count.

This tutorial will lead you step by step in how to take advantage of all these tabs and get to know exactly what they can do for you.

Step 1- Using the “Reference” tool

First, click on the “Review” tab at the top of your Windows screen. You’ll notice a ”Research” box on the left, click on this. Now, to the right of your document you can do a search. Decide which resource you will use for your search for ex. Thesaurus, Encyclopedia, Translator, etc. and your results pop-up in seconds!

Step 2- Using the Translator

Click on the “Translate” tab, this will take you directly to a translator which will pop-up to you right. Enter in any word you would like translated to a different language. Then, choose which languages you will be translating ‘From’ and ‘To’ and you results show up right in this box.

Step 3- Using the “Set Language” tool

This next tool is very useful if you ever write documents in another language. If you are writing in French, now you can “Set Language” to French and it will check grammar and spelling in the correct language. You can choose any language to do this with. Now you can have a perfect document in any language!

Step 4- Using Word Count

You can now do a word count for any part of your document at any time. Highlight any text, click on “Word Count” in the task bar. A box will pop-up and show you the exact Word Count for that portion on your page. This is very quick and useful.
